Porsches and Pours – Viva Italia!

The Best of Italian Wine & Cuisine with Chef Ron Oliver
Tuesday, November 15,  6:15 PM

Savor 9 spectacular dishes with perfectly matched wines as you’d experience in one of Italy’s finest restaurants without stepping foot in an airport!

Our Culinary Tour of Italy will feature dishes created by Chef Ron Oliver2010 San Diego Chef of the Year and former Chef de Cuisine of the iconic La Jolla Marine Roomwhere he led them to 8 consecutive “Best San Diego Restaurant” awards. He is also the author of 3 award-winning cookbooks. Throughout his career, Ron has traveled the globe tasting, savoring, and noting foods of the various regions. “I travel to discover native ingredients and cooking methods for my menus, but the perspective I gain on life can be an ever bigger discovery. The idea that food is a gift from the earth, that cooking is an act of love, and that eating is socially unifying, are all concepts I’ve learned through travel. Being able to share those experiences with others on a nightly basis as a chef is the best reward.” So I think you can agree, we are all in for quite a treat!

Our Culinary Tour begins with delightful Ca Furlan Prosecco Brut Rose Cuvee Mariana ($16), a round, creamy prosecco with hints of strawberry, cherry, and rose petals.  ’21 Pieropan Soave Classico ($19), the bright, crisp white that made Soave a household word, will follow.   Next we’ll enjoy 2020 Broglia Gavi di Gavi La Meirana ($21), a dry, rich white with lively minerality. 2015 Livio Sassetti Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino ($78), very highly rated with enticing aromas and flavors of cherry, black plum, leather, and spice, is sure to get your attention! ’20 Vajra Barbera d’Alba ($26) will follow, with bold, ripe spicy berry notes.  Next we’ll savor 2016 Elio Altare Barolo ($85)from one of Piedmont’s star wineries, whose Barolo consistently earns scores in the 90s from Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, and Wine & Spirits. It’s a real beauty! 2013 Colpetrone Sagrantino Memoira ($24), another consistent 90+ point wine, will dazzle you with rich, ripe, smoky berry notes, it’s a big bold wine! Only another big, full, rich red like 2017 Allegrini Amarone ($85) could possibly follow it! Finally, we’ll conclude with the Chef’s Kiss surprise dessert, paired with the legendary, much beloved Dr. Carlo Hauner Malvasia della Lipari Passito ($40/375ml), an exotic, deletable dessert wine.  Chef Ron Oliver and Wine Educator Anastasia Berta tasted the wines together to create the 9 perfectly-matched courses that will accompany each wine. Anastasia will speak about each wine, and explain what makes the wine and food pairings work.

The $125 per person price includes all food and drink, featuring 9 different wines,  each paired with a perfectly-matched dish. (Yes the price is $15 higher than the last event, because we “leveled up” the wines, and we will have 9 courses instead of 8.  The cost of one bottle of each of the wines is over $400, so you will certainly be getting your money’s worth!)

Our last tasting sold out in less than 24 hours, so if you want to attend, SIGN UP NOW HERE
