Old Julian Highway

Description: Old Julian Highway is a 10 mile stretch of road connecting Julian to Ramona. This is not a road you’ll want to plan your day around, however it’s a great road to incorporate into your existing drive down CA-78 and is in close proximity to several Ramona Valley wineries.

Access: 78 south of Santa Ysabel or 3rd Street in Ramona.

Difficulty:
Old Julian isn’t a particularly difficult road, however it does incorporate a hard turn with no guard and a steep drop. You’ll be greeted with a number of esses, decreasing radius turns and properly banked curves to keep that Porsche of yours happy.

Road Condition:
Old Julian is a residential road, and as such is fairly well maintained. Keep an eye out for gravel and debris if it’s rained recently.

Traffic:
In addition to the Grant James vineyard, there are several homes and farms off Old Julian. Expect slower cars and event farm equipment to be present. Be considerate of the property owners on this stretch.

Scenery:
Numerous rural pastures and homes can be found on Old Julian, which is especially beautiful during the spring when all of the vegetation is green. Be on the lookout for the camels at the Oasis Camel Dairy (farm tours are available!)

Length: 9.6 miles

Attractions: Guy B. Woodward Museum, Grant James Vineyard, Milagro Farms Vineyard, Edwards Vineyard & Cellars, Romona Valley Wineries, Oasis Camel Dairy, snacks and fuel can be found at either end in Ramona or Julian.
