PCA SDR President

Hello and Welcome from your new 2022 President!

Before looking forward, let’s take a look back: 2021 was quite the “Groundhog
Year,” following the horror of 2020.
Finally emerging from 18 months of lockdowns and quarantines once Covid vaccines became widely available last Spring, we slowly and carefully resumed events and activities–
albeit with masks and social distancing.

We had a rousing Membership party at The Vault in July, held our first “in person” Board meeting at Völlig Autowerks in August,
enjoyed a fabulous Volunteer Party at the SD Zoo Safari Park in November, and sipped our way through our first Wine & Food Pairing at a member’s Point Loma home in December. Our Drivers Education/Time Trials and Backroads Tours, operating all year long, saved us from cabin fever! And we conducted our first Performance Driving School in over two years with a triumphant sold-out inauguaral event at Viejas Casino/Project OZ in November.

Kicking off 2022, we held our first Porsche Prom in two years at Birch Aquarium,
a triumphant return to as close to “normal” as we can expect after two pandemic years! Sadly, Covid reared its ugly spiked head, preventing Prom Co-Chair and Past President Victoria Varon from enjoying the fruits of her mega-labor, but Co-Chair and 2021 President Tom Brown emceed the evening with humor, style and aplomb, assisted by lovely “Raffle Fairy” Carmen Brown. Representatives of our valued dealership sponsors attended and spoke; many thanks to Santiago Sierra of Porsche Carlsbad and Eric Shooks of Porsche San Diego. New Zone 8 Rep. Lisa DeCristo also addressed partygoers.

Speaking of outgoing President Tom Brown, he performed a herculean task, running our Club as normally as possible during a chaotic worldwide pandemic. The 2021 Board presented Tom with a handcrafted Laguiole corkscrew to thank him for his year of outstanding leadership and service to the Club. We hope the fossilized cactus and amber handle of the corkscrew will remind Tom of PCA-SDR every time he uses it.

Perhaps he’ll have more time to enjoy his wine collection now that he won’t be
spending all his free time “Presidentin’!”

Finally, when I was elected President, some of our PCA-SDR friends nicknamed me “Queen B.” While I love the moniker and the cute little crowned-bee image it conjures, that’s not at all how I think of my new role as President of our Club. Whereas Queen Bees are catered to by hordes of worker bees and drones, THIS “Queen” intends to be YOUR servant. It is my fervant hope that 2022 not only returns us to normalcy, but brings burgeoning membership, countless new events, and an abundance of wonderful memories! Bring me your thoughts, your ideas, your energy, so we can work together to make PCA-SDR the best Club it can be!
