SDR Presidents Message – June 2020
June 2020 Message from PCA-San Diego Region President
What’s happening in PCA San Diego Region?
The same restrictions on “non-essential” gatherings prevail so, once again, PCA-SDR activities are minimized. In order to do everything possible to avoid a resurgence of the virus, it is still critical that we remain vigilant and do whatever we can to try and ensure that we avoid a return wave of increased occurrences.
The return of our events will take a board vote for each event and due consideration of the event specifics will be taken into account. Even so, it is unlikely that the SDR board will vote against the ruling of the Government, State Authorities and City of San Diego. As much as we are itching to get back to our social and driving events, the decision is pretty straightforward when you weigh the fun of getting out in a group on a tour, for example on the one-hand and, on the other … somebody could die.
When we are finally given the green light, we will definitely have some catching up to do.
I am aware that some of our members have been going out in small groups and driving the backcountry roads. I suggest members please use common sense, practice social distancing and take all recommended precautions – facemask, etc.
By now I’m sure you will have seen that the first of our bi-annual Performance Driving Schools scheduled for June 5, 6 and 7 had to be cancelled. Personally I’m very disappointed as I firmly believe that our Performance Driving Schools really are the best thing that our Region offers our members as it promotes safer driving, while giving them a chance to learn by experiencing what their Porsche can and cannot do with an instructor by your side in a controlled environment SAFELY.
Lately, many of us are spending significantly more time on the internet than usual and I suggest you try familiarizing yourself with our website (www.pcasdr.org) and particularly the “PCA-SDR Calendar” link on the front page. It just might be a good idea to save this page to your computer/phone as a favorite because you’ll probably start using this page to see what Club events are coming up as they open.
The “Events and Activities” page under the “What’s going on” menu on the front page shows pretty much the full range of events that SDR puts on, take a look and consider trying something new – you might be surprised at how a seemingly innocuous event that you may not have considered before can turn out to be an absolute blast.
There’s also an “Articles” page on the same dropdown menu which has some interesting stuff that you might enjoy.
The following link is to an 8 minute video on the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, so this is your chance to see an independent road test and learn what Porsches new electric Vehicle is all about. Link: Noisy rain
The concept of the “Porsche Field of Dreams,” a non-competitive SDR social event, mentioned in last month’s President’s Message scheduled to be held this fall, is still very much alive, although recently planning has been frozen. The premise is to get as many Porsches of every model, every year, and every condition all on display on one golf course at the same time. More details to follow.
To all new and recent members, welcome aboard! Your timing for joining could be a little better with everything shut down right now, but that is OK because we will return and go from strength to strength.Just check out the “Events and Activities” page on our website, as mentioned above, to get a flavor of the many things that what we do. We assure you, we can give you some interesting ideas for ways to enjoy Porsche ownership that you may not have considered. Keep your eyes open for an e-mail detailing the next New Member Welcome Event and be sure to come along.
What Recently happened in SDR?
The PCA-SDR Performance Driving School (PDS) was regrettably cancelled but our fingers remain crossed that the SDCCU/SDSU Stadium will still be available for our use for the Fall 2020 PDS. In June the Stadium personnel meet with all the local car clubs to disseminate the dates when the stadium will be available for rental for the last half of each year.
Also, the next SDR Mystery Weekend is now October 24-25. These events are really enjoyable and offer an opportunity to get out and enjoy driving your Porsche and socializing with others at a secret destination.
HOT NEWS The PCA-SDR Goodie Store has changed hands and the new Goodie Store Chairs have come up with a whole array of new SDR logo products. Take some time to explore some of the new polo shirts, fleece jackets, coffee mugs, hats, bags and more. Please don’t be shy, if you can think of a product that our Goodie Store could carry that isn’t currently available, e-mail goodiestore@pcasdr.org with your idea.

The text below gives a brief description of events scheduled for June. At the end of this message, a summary calendar gives links to fliers with registration dates and times. ALL event details are available on our website calendar HERE
The Monthly Board Meeting on Tue June 2ndwill once again be a conference call in order to comply with social distancing regulations. Board members and committee chairs will receive conference call details with dial-in numbers etc. The Board will again reassess all upcoming events and a decision will be made regarding potential cancellations depending on current affairs. At the March board meeting the board decided to cancel the SDR Autocross Series, the Last Tuesday Social events and the monthly Cars and SDR events until further notice. As the situation changes and these events come back onto the calendar, notifications will be sent out to SDR members via e-mail.
Please look on any page of our website and “SEEK THE GREEN”
The green text found on every page is to enable you to ensure that the contact info that the club has on file for you is current. This link takes you to a page where members can check and update your e-mail address and mobile phone number if necessary.
If any SDR member would like to give feedback on any San Diego Region issue to only the SDR Region President or, if you have a suggestion or feedback for a club event, please e-mail me at feedback@pcasdr.org and your correspondence will be answered. If you request, you will remain anonymous.
