SDR President’s Message October 2021

<< Go Back

It’s been a busy month and September seemed to fly by. October looks to be the same, as we once again have a calendar full of events. I was finally able to make a “Last Tuesday Social,” my first one since we restarted them. The venue was Casa Machada, which is also the home base for a San Diego ukulele club, which coincidently meets on the last Tuesday of the month. Those of us lucky enough to attend feasted on Mexican food while being serenaded as 20+ ukulele playing musicians performed sing and play-a-longs. Fortunately, it was background music, not so loud as to prevent conversation.

It reminded my wife, Susan, of our trip to Portugal where we stopped in a restaurant for lunch, somewhere, in a small town. It was one of those places where nothing was written in English and the waiter, while making a valiant effort, could not totally break through the language barrier (though his English was better than our Portuguese!). We had a good lunch, but we didn’t necessarily get what we thought we had ordered; but who knows? Back to my point – not long after we sat down, a tour bus showed up and 50 people unloaded and overwhelmed the restaurant. (Good thing we got our food orders in first!) Well, they were, apparently, a singing club, and they proceeded to sing various songs throughout our lunch, in some unknown foreign language. This is what makes travel great – the unexpected discoveries and experiences.

Back to PCASDR and things Porsche with a few notices of value to you.

I heard about a Boxster recall that may interested owners of previous generation Boxsters: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/your-previous-gen-porsche-boxster-cayman-are-being-recalled-in-the-us-169227.html

Performance Driving School – Presented by Vollig Autowerks

Our Performance Driving School on November 20 & 21 has a new venue! We’ve moved it from the Lake Elsinore Storm Stadium to the new parking lot at Viejas Casino. This is significantly closer to San Diego and consequently makes life easier for most participants and volunteers. Speaking of that – we always need volunteers at this event, both qualified instructors and otherwise. If you can make it, please contact Anastasia at: designbyanastasia@gmail.com (Also, expect to see an autocross at Viejas in the new year.)

Save the date! The Porsche Prom is back! Our annual fancy gala where we welcome the new board of directors (and thank the outgoing one) will be held on Saturday, January 8. We are returning to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla. Always a great venue, we are looking forward to a fantastic evening, made even more memorable as we unfortunately had to skip last year.

Oktoberfest needs your help!
Note: This is not a PCA Event

The California Society of Healthcare Engineers is hosting an Oktoberfest on Thursday, October 14th, 5:00 – 8:00 PM in honor of healthcare workers (who have worked pretty hard this past 18 months). They would love to have Porsche owners display their cars to help create an authentic German atmosphere. Bring your Porsche and you’ll get a free admission to the event which includes dinner.

Location: 8390 Juniper Creek Lane, San Diego

Please RSVP or send questions to: SophiaHackler@air-tek.net and DonMcMillan@alliance-enviro.com
