A “Roaring” Cheer for our Volunteers

In November, the board hosted the annual celebration of the PCA-SDR volunteers at Lions, Tigers & Bears. The 146-acre facility near Alpine is home to more than 60 animals rescued from across the U.S., and one of a small number of accredited exotic animal sanctuaries in the country.

Lion, Tigers & Bears was the perfect venue for the volunteer celebration. A noble cause in a beautiful setting. Attendees learned about the animals and sanctuary, had a great meal, and socialized with our PCA family.

The animals were given parts of their daily feedings to provide us a close-up view. Rocky the Bear showed us his foraging skills. Nola the tiger played with her toys as she waited her turn.

Eric Marc-Aurele, president, hosted with lots of help from Michael Zurich (incoming vice president) and Val Hanke (incoming president). Michael displayed outstanding emcee skills as he guided us through the day. As it turns out, he proved to be clairvoyant — more than once predicting who was going to the winning raffle ticket holder. This was a chance for PCA-SDR to honor the volunteers for it truly is not just the cars, it’s the people. The 120 volunteers who attended fuel the events that fuel this club.

Events rely on volunteer effort that happens before, during and after. Some of the work is very visible, some of it is not, and it is all vital. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered this year, or past years.

And if you haven’t yet had the pleasure of supporting the club through volunteering, we welcome you to connect with a board member, current volunteer, or on our region website: https://www.pcasdr. org/get-involved

Thanks to our friends and sponsors One of One, and Tint World Miramar. And a special shout out to Greg Phillips, ever-present club photographer and provider of the included photos.
